Ashland Police Department

Chief Joseph Stanford began his career as a law enforcement officer in March of 2008, when then Chief Benny Davis (ret.) hired  Chief Stanford to become a police officer. After not finishing the first two attempts, Chief Stanford was able to finish his certification at Northeast Alabama Law Enforcement Academy located in Anniston, Alabama, in July of 2009.

Upon completion of the academy Chief Stanford began working  as a patrol officer and crafting his trade. During his time as a patrol officer he was able to impress Chief Davis and Chief Davis promoted Stanford to Shift Sergeant. Later Chief Stanford served as an investigator for the department.

During his career he has always made it a priority to be fair and honest with all persons that he has any dealings with, and strives to provide a professional department through training, hiring, and retention of officers and dispatchers.

Chief Stanford is a graduate of Clay County High School, and received his Bachelor's Degree of Science, in Criminal Justice Administration, from Columbia Southern University. Chief Stanford did receive the designation of a Certified Law Enforcement Executive, recognized by the State of Alabama, as a second certification for law enforcement on August 2, 2018. He has completed his 240 hours of continuing education and will continue to pursue training to make sure he is becoming a better chief everyday.
