About the Role
Key Responsibilities
• Maintain a visible presence on campus to promote safety and deter criminal activity.
• Develop positive relationships with students, faculty, staff, and parents.
• Investigate incidents occurring on school property and coordinate with local law enforcement when necessary.
• Assist in the development and implementation of school safety and emergency response plans.
• Provide education on topics such as drug awareness, internet safety, bullying prevention, and conflict resolution.
• Monitor and assess potential security risks and recommend corrective actions.
• Respond to emergencies, threats, and crisis situations in a timely manner.
• Support school administrators in maintaining a safe and respectful learning environment.
• Prepare reports and maintain accurate records of incidents and activities.
• Participate in school events, meetings, and community outreach programs.
Requirements
· Current certification as a sworn law enforcement officer.
· Minimum of 3–5 years of law enforcement experience preferred.
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to work effectively with youth, educators, and families.
· Knowledge of school safety practices, crisis intervention, and conflict resolution techniques.
· Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in emergency situations.
· Certified as a School Resource Officer, at least within the first year of taking the postion.
About the position
The School Resource Officer (SRO) is a sworn law enforcement officer assigned to a school or group of schools to help maintain a safe and secure learning environment. The SRO builds positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and community members while providing security, crime prevention education, and emergency response support.
